Following a distress call by residents of Ogbomoso in Oyo State, The South West Zonal Office conducted an on the spot assessment of the affected areas on the 10th October 2023. The incidents which was as a result of series of rainfalls had gradually been filling up water channels resulting in flooding of buildings along the water channel.
The Asst. Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Olanrewaju Kazeem led a Team from the office to carry out the assessment of the incident in order to know the magnitude of the damage.
It was observed that residential buildings and shops along the water channel were flooded. Also the top soil and canals of some area were eroded, making it quite difficult for motorists to pass.The community appealed to the Federal Government to come to their aid in alleviating the hardship caused by the flood. Some residents recommended the dredging of the rivers in Ogbomoso Land.
The assessment was successfully carried out by NEMA with representatives of the Honourable Member representing Ogbomosho North, Ogbomoso South and Orire Federal Constituency.
