The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through its Sokoto Operations Office (SOO), has carried out an assessment of flood-affected communities in Ngaski Local Government Area of Kebbi State following heavy rainfall that devastated the area.
The assessment covered four communities—Ngaski, Lubata, Garin-Baka, and Birnin-Yauri—where the flooding displaced thousands of residents and submerged several hectares of farmlands. Crops affected include rice, millet, and sorghum, heightening fears of food insecurity in the region.
During the unfortunate incident, two persons lost their lives while five others sustained injuries. The flood also caused extensive damage to residential structures, collapsing houses and blowing off rooftops.
While some victims continue to live in partially damaged structures, many others have been displaced and are currently taking shelter with relatives and good neighbours within the affected communities.
NEMA assured that it will continue to collaborate with Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other relevant stakeholders to provide support to those affected and to mitigate further impact.
