The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has swiftly responded to a flash flood incident that occurred in Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State at about 3:00 p.m. today, 3rd September 2025, following several hours of intense rainfall. The incident affected three communities, leaving many residents displaced and properties damaged.
Upon receiving reports of the flooding, the NEMA Yola Operations Office immediately activated its emergency response mechanism and deployed a rescue team in collaboration with the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) and other critical stakeholders. The joint team was mobilized to the affected locations to assist residents, provide immediate relief, and mitigate the impact of the disaster.
The flooding was largely attributed to prolonged heavy rainfall, coupled with poor drainage systems and the indiscriminate construction of structures along natural water channels. Among the most affected areas were Bekaji, Jambutu, and Bachure communities, where over 250 households were reported to be impacted.
The floodwaters also extended to the premises of the 103 Strike Group of the Nigerian Air Force in Jimeta, where some houses were submerged.
