The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Minna Operations Office, has distributed relief materials to households affected by the recent windstorm that ravaged Bangi, Sharadi and Durgu communities in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.
The intervention followed the Federal Government’s approval of relief assistance through NEMA to support affected households and alleviate the hardship caused by the disaster.
The distribution exercise, held on 26th July 2026, was led by the Head of Operations, Mr. Hussaini Isah, represented by the Head of Planning, Research and Forecasting Unit, Hajiya Ramatu Turaki, in collaboration with the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) and other stakeholders.
The NEMA delegation was received by the Chairman of Mariga Local Government Area, Hon. Aliyu Bagga Muhammad; former Council Chairman, Hon. Idris Ibrahim; the Personal Assistant to the Member representing Kontagora/Mariga/Mashegu/Wushishi Federal Constituency, Alhaji Musa Muhammad Dabai; the Village Head, Alhaji Ya’u Buskum; and other local government officials, who commended the Federal Government and NEMA for the timely intervention.
Relief items distributed included bags of rice and beans, vegetable oil, tomato paste, seasoning cubes, iodised salt, wax prints and guinea brocade to cushion the impact of the disaster on affected households.
The distribution, conducted at the Ministry of Works, Unguwan Gwari, Kontagora, was supervised by officials of NEMA, NSEMA, community leaders and other stakeholders to ensure transparency, accountability and orderly distribution to verified beneficiaries.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and NEMA for the prompt humanitarian assistance, describing the intervention as timely support that would help ease their hardship and aid their recovery.
