NEMA COLLABORATES WITH UNIVERSITY TO ORGANIZE REGIONAL STAKEHOLDERS’ MEETING IN THE SOUTH SOUTH.

NEMA has collaborated with the Centre for Disaster Risk Management and Development Studies (CDRMDS), University of Port Harcourt to organize the 2023 Regional Stakeholders’ Meeting with the theme: Climate-induced Disasters, Preparedness and Response Approaches in South South. The event which took place at the Faculty of Law Conference Room of the University had in attendance the Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof. Owunari A. Georgewill, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Administration and Academic Profs. Clifford O. Ofurum and Kingsley I. Owete, Registrar of the University, Professors and Director of the CDRMDS Dr. Daniel Mbee. Other dignatories were the Director General of NEMA representated by the Zonal Coordinator, South South Godwin Tepikor, Director General of NiHSA Engr. Clement Nze and Prof. T.K.S. Abam as panelists. A key note address was given by the former Director of the Centre and current Commissioner of Education in Rivers State Prof. P. C. Mmom. Representatives.of the NPF, NSCDC, FRSC, FFS, NRC, Staff of NEMA, South South and stakeholders  from among the States of the South South region were participants.
The 2023 flood predictions were highlighted and preparedness, mitigation and response strategies were discussed.
Stakeholders were unanimous in their resolve to play their role in the management of the 2023 flood disaster in the zone.
